Message from the Organising Committee Chair

We live in challenging times; Globally, countries are realigning, and international cooperation organisations are losing legitimacy, all in the face of climate instability. Nationally we are confronted with economic, social and political uncertainly with this influencing the capability of key public institutions in the water sector, including local government. We, as water sector professionals, need to act, and getting together to present new ideas and hold discussions on the challenges our sector faces is necessary. The WISA 2026 conference provides an important platform for these engagements; this is a flagship event for the Southern African water community, and for international water professionals with an interest in the region.

We have chosen as our theme for this conference “Rethinking Amanzi: Securing our Future” recognising the need for new ideas, innovation, expanding research and debates on future action. Under this theme we have identified eight sub-themes:

Balancing the Equation: Managing Water Quality and Quantity

Once again, this three day CPD-accredited event stands as the flagship gathering for the water sector in Southern Africa. Delegates can look forward to daily keynote addresses from leading local and international speakers, alongside up to 12 parallel streams featuring more than 150 peer-reviewed presentations, thought-provoking panel discussions, interactive workshops, and a range of technical tours. The programme is complemented by engagement with around 140 local and international exhibitors, showcasing the latest technologies and services shaping the sector. Anchored in eight subthemes under the banner “Rethinking Amanzi – Securing our Future,” the event offers delegates a unique opportunity to learn, share, and actively contribute to strengthening the impact of the water sector on society and the economy in these uncertain times.
